What are shin splints?

Essentially shin splints does not refer to a particular injury but is more a general name for pain at the front of the lower leg. Inflammation of the periostium of the tibia is the most likely cause of this pain although there are others.

  • Lower leg pain.
  • Sometimes some swelling.
  • Lumps and bumps over the bone.
  • Pain when the toes or foot are bent downwards.
