Inflammation of Adductor Muscles

What are the adductor muscles?

There are five adductor muscles. These muscles are primarily used to pull the legs together. For activities such as sprinting, playing football, horse riding and hurdling they come into play alot. Over use can lead to inflammation of the tendons (tendonitis) that attach the muscles to the bone and it can also be caused by a previous injury such as a groin strain.

How can you tell if you have inflammation of the adductor muscles?

  • There will be pain in the groin at the top of the adductor muscles. This may radiate down the leg.
  • Specific points on the bone in the groin may be painful.
  • Pressing the legs together against resistance may be painful.
  • Have difficulty in running especially sprinting.

You can avoid groin injuries by ensuring the muscles are strong and flexible through strengthening and stretching exercises.

Useful Products:

  • Cold Therapy - apply cold therapy to help relieve pain and swelling.
  • Groin Strap - helps support soft tissue and retain warmth, keeping muscle supple.
